VA Home Loan Program
Department of Veterans Affairs Loan
Guaranty Service An independent agency of the federal government which
guarantees long-term, low - or no-down payment mortgages to eligible
veterans
HUD U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. HUD's Homes and
Communities Page is a clearinghouse of information and services about homes
and communities for citizens and for HUD's current and potential business
partners. It's designed to empower citizens and business partners by giving
them what they want, when they want it, in ways that make sense to them, so
they can solve their own problems and achieve their objectives.
FEDERAL
HOUSING ADMINISTRATION (FHA) - A division of the Department of Housing
and Urban Development. Its main activity is the insuring of residential
mortgage loans made by private lenders. FHA also sets standards for
underwriting mortgages
FEDERAL
HOME LOAN MORTGAGE CORPORATION (FHLMC) - Also called "Freddie Mac," is a
quasi-governmental agency that purchases conventional mortgage from insured
depository institutions and HUD-approved mortgage bankers. Freddie Mac is a
stockholder-owned corporation chartered by Congress in 1970 to keep money
flowing to mortgage lenders in support of homeownership and rental housing.
Freddie Mac purchases single-family and multifamily residential mortgages
and mortgage-related securities, which it finances primarily by issuing
mortgage pass through securities and debt instruments in the capital
markets.
GOVERNMENT
NATIONAL MORTGAGE ASSOCIATION
(GNMA) - Also known as "Ginnie Mae," provides sources of funds
for residential mortgages, insured or guaranteed by FHA or VA.
Farmers Home Administration
(FmHA)
Provides financing to farmers and other qualified borrowers who are unable
to obtain loans elsewhere.
